Internship programme aims to enable all students to gain industry exposure and experience, immerse and adapt to real work environment, cultivate work ethics and develop career network and employment opportunities. One thing that I can certain that everyone must be well-prepared before embarking on the actual internship.

 

Before starting my 3 month internship, I had attended few workshops to enhance my writing, interview and communication skill. The workshops I had attended were writing effective resume and cover letter workshop, ethics and etiquette at work, professional image and grooming workshop, ethics at the workplace workshop and effective teamwork workshop.

 

Beside participating workshop, I had also prepared and equipped myself by mastering the Excel and Word spreadsheet before my actual internship. As I knew that I will become handy if I start my auditing trainee job in PKF.

 

Other than that, I had also spent some time on familiarizing myself with the company as understanding the company's mission and office hierarchy will make your life so much easier like knowing whom to be confirmed and who to report for. Thus I had spent some time on surfing the internet and Google Search about my company. While surfing and searching the company website, I had paid attention on the page of About Us and Company Mission Statement, as these reflect the company at its core. Through gaining a brief understanding about my company, the problem to be stammered during interview session can be reduced.

 

Apart from that, I also went for shopping after knowing my office dress code. I had spent two days to do my shopping items. Before shopping, I had actually listed down what I needed to buy. For instance, I was required to buy leather shoes, formal long pants and formal long sleeve shirts for my coming internship. As human says, "It is important to have appropriate outfits available for your new internship as the dress code is the representative of your own reputation as well as the company's image".

 

Also, during the progress of applying internship at PKF, there was pile of document to be prepared. Thus, I had brought all the necessary documents and checked with my internship supervisor before the actual day of my internship. This was because some documents needed to be verified for my university.
